Welcome to
The Crow Identity
My father left me a few family charts and emails. I picked up where he left off, and the Crow name took me from American records to DNA testing and the Isle of Man. This is where I’m bringing that research together. If you’re tracing a Crow or Crowe branch of your own, I’m glad you’re here.
DNA Research
I turned to DNA testing to see whether the family line I’d traced on paper held up. Crow DNA is where I share what I’m learning about my own line, what a DNA match can tell us, and how to get started with the surname project.
Manx Roots
Manx means “of the Isle of Man,” the island in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland. This part of the site follows the Crow families who lived there and draws on the research of my friend Nigel G. Crowe, whose Manx Roots archive I’ve preserved.
Ministry
While looking through the Manx research, I kept running into Crows who served as vicars, rectors, and other clergy. That opened up a line of research of its own. I’m tracing where they served, how they were related, and what their parish records can tell us about their lives.
Family History
This is where the individual family stories and records come together, including branches beyond the Isle of Man. One place to start is the account of Sgt. Benjamin Crow, written by his descendant Darlene Chaffin Law.
How My Crow Journey Began
My father started me on a search he never lived to see unfold. His family stories, the generosity of other Crow researchers, and my friendship with Nigel Crowe led me toward DNA testing and the Isle of Man.
